There are many applications of the Ilizarov techniques for complex foot deformities for which other treatment options do not exist. One advantage of the Ilizarov method is that it allows surgeons to correct complicated deformities without incisions or osteotomies, particularly in pediatric patients. However, in adult patients, osteotomies are often necessary and Ilizarov developed medial and hind-foot osteotomies that allow correction of difficult foot problems such as:
- Polio Deformities
- Equinus Foot Deformity
- Valgus Hind-Foot Deformity
- Cavus Foot (Claw Foot)
- Vertical Heel
- Symptomatic Flat Foot
- The Varus Heel
- The Valgus Heel
- Forefoot Adduction (Varus)
- Flat Valgus Pronated Foot
- Ankle Arthrodesis
- Foot Lengthening
- Hind-foot Lengthening
- Forefoot Lengthening
- Forefoot and Hind-Foot Lengthening
- Lengthening of Bone Stumps of the Foot
- Congenital Longitudinal Deficiency of the Fibula
